Police appeal for information after suspected fire in Cheadle park
Police are appealing for information following reports of a fire and vandalism at a park in Cheadle.
Around 0.30am on Tuesday 28 November, police were called to reports of a fire at the park near Chestnut Avenue. Police believe that a bin was set on fire, which caused damage to the MUGA pitch.
An investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing, police say.
Sergeant Delaney from GMP Stockport district said: "We would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who has any mobile phone or CCTV footage of the incident, or in the moments leading up to it. No matter how small the information may seem, it may be vital to our investigation.
"I would encourage members of the public to report any acts of vandalism or anti-social behaviour that they witness to ensure that our parks and recreational areas are a safe and friendly place for families to enjoy."
Cllr Grace Baynham, Cabinet Member for Highways, Parks and Leisure Services, said: "Incidents like this cost the council a considerable amount of money to repair.
"Not only that, this act of vandalism now prevents youngsters and their families from enjoying the park.
"I am asking anyone with information to contact GMP [Greater Manchester Police] and allow them to carry out their investigation."
Members of the public with any information or details that could help are asked to call police on 0161 856 9647, quoting log number 71 of 28/11/23.
