Police announce 'record results' against knife crime in Stockport

Greater Manchester Police has made 20 arrests for offences such as possession of knives, drug dealing and grievous bodily harm.
It comes as part of Operation Venture, where police were deployed to Stockport in August to deter violent crime.
Police used high-visibility patrols and community evidence to prevent and respond to violence in the area.
Throughout the deployment, police carried out 43 stop and searches, and seized weapons, £4,050 in cash and 18 vehicles.

In one 'standout' incident, officers were flagged down by a woman who had been run over by her ex-partner. Police swiftly tracked the suspect to his home and arrested him.
In another case, officers followed a vehicle with three men on board. When one tried to escape, he was tackled by police and searched, revealing a large amount of drugs and a large knife tucked in his waistband.
Sergeant Mohammed Waqas, Operation Venture, said: "These results show what focused, intelligence-led policing can achieve. Every arrest, every seizure and every disruption help make our communities safer.
"We cannot, however, operate alone. Community information is what allows us to target our deployments, mitigate harm and risk, and act against those perpetrating violence in local areas".
