Plans submitted to demolish Heaton Lane car park

Heaton Lane car park could be gone by the end of 2025.
Plans to demolish the car park have been submitted by Stockport Council.
The plans propose removing the multi-storey car park down to 'slab level'.
The existing electric vehicle chargers in the car park will be relocated to elsewhere in Stockport town centre.
If plans are approved, work is expected to start in October, with the demolition planned to be done by 21 December 2025.
Great Egerton Street would also be partially closed prior to work being carried out, to keep pedestrians and traffic away from the potentially dangerous demolition.
The work itself will be carried out by removing floor slabs one by one from the parking bays, from the ground upwards.
Contractor P.P. O'Connor has said it will take noise and dust into consideration when completing the works.
Dust suppression systems will be in place, and although noise levels are not considered likely to be a nuisance, the site manager will be able to review the demolition process if it's deemed too high.
A decision is due on the plans by 5 October.
