Plans submitted for complete overhaul of Bramhall High School
By Alasdair Perry 17th May 2026
Plans have been submitted for a complete redevelopment of Bramhall High School with new buildings, facilities and more.
The proposals would see a new school and sports facilities. The existing buildings - apart from the modern maths block - would be demolished.
The new school is designed to "provide high-quality education facilities fit for a 21st Century learning environment", and is funded by the Department for Education's School Rebuilding Programme.
Subject to planning approval, construction is expected to start in autumn 2026, which would put the new school on track for occupation in summer 2028.
Temporary classrooms and accommodation would be provided while works are taking place.
Under the new plans, the main school building would comprise 25 general classrooms, plus a drama studio, 10 science labs, workshops, computing classrooms, and art classrooms.
There would also be five new classrooms for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
What's more, the proposals include a four-court sports hall, plus an activity studio and changing facilities.
Outside there are plans for two multi-use games area (MUGA) pitches, including one for the school's use and one for dual community use.
Across the site there would also be new landscaping and planting.
In the designs, the new school building itself is three storeys at the front elevation, dropping to two storeys at the rear.
It would be a single block, designed to improve wayfinding for students and staff.
As for traffic and general capacity, the planning application describes the proposal as a 'like for like' replacement which is not expected to increase the number of students or staff, and, by extension, traffic levels are expected to remain about the same.
The proposed level of parking is 132 parking spaces, including 14 access spaces and 13 EV charging bays. It's roughly the same as provision on site at the moment and is deemed by the applicant as appropriate to meet demands.
In the planning application, contractor Willmott Dixon said: "Bramhall High School aspires to be a modern, 21st‑century learning environment where every student, in every subject, is supported to achieve their full potential.
"The replacement school will provide high‑quality facilities that promote a balanced approach to academic challenge, personalised support, and enriching experiences to nurture the development of all students."
Plans were submitted in April 2026.
A decision on the proposals - taken by Stockport Council - is due on 10 July.
The consultation period runs until 23 May for the public and 25 May for neighbours.
