Plans move forward for new Aldi in Hazel Grove
By Alasdair Perry 9th Aug 2026
Proposals to build a new Aldi in Hazel Grove have taken a step forward.
Plans have now been approved to demolish what was formerly the Carpet Right on Macclesfield Road, potentially clearing the way for a new Aldi store.
The supermarket chain has earmarked the site for a new shop, around one mile away from its nearest other store on Commercial Road.
Demolishing the Carpet Right store would free up around two acres for the construction of the new Aldi.
A planning document estimates the demolition would take between eight and 10 weeks.
The work will be carried out from 7.30am-6pm on weekdays, and 8am-12.30pm on Saturdays.
Real estate company Avison Young has submitted the plans on behalf of Aldi.
The Carpet Right closed in 2024, not long after the company entered administration following a period of general consumer decline.
You can find out more about the plans by searching reference number DC/099150 on Stockport Council's planning portal.
