Plans for bus stop to be reintroduced on Castle Street, Edgeley
A report requesting approval for a bus stop on Castle Street, Edgeley, went to the Stockport Central Area Committee yesterday evening (22 June).
The bus stop would be opposite the Edgeley Discount Store, close to the intersection of York Street and Castle Street.
There was a bus stop here until it was decommissioned in 2021 - the proposed stop would therefore be a re-introduction, although this time it will come with clearway road markings.
The report argued that: "Bus clearway markings would help maintain traffic movement through this area and assist bus operations to help ensure the safety and amenity of bus passengers."
It is understood that there are no objections from businesses and residents, and that Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) is 'fully supportive' of the proposals.
The new bus stop would cost £600, which would be taken from the Edgeley delegated ward budget. The shelter, pole and sign would be supplied and installed by TfGM.
The committee agreed to recommend that the cabinet member for highways, parks and leisure services approves the scheme.
