Plans to build 54 new retirement living apartments in Davenport have been approved.

The proposals would see the construction of a two-and-a-half / three storey building on Bramhall Lane, following the demolition of the Trinity Methodist church which currently occupies the site.

The new building would contain 54 apartments for retirement living, as well as communal facilities including a residents' lounge and a guest suite.

There will be 32 one-bed apartments, and 22 two-bed.

All of them will be self-contained, accessible via a network of corridors and secure entrances which prioritises ease of movement.

As part of the proposals, the vacant Trinity Methodist Church which currently sits on the site will be demolished (Image via planning document on SMBC portal)

There will also be a total of 40 car parking spaces. In the application, the developer emphasised that care had been taken to "minimise the impact of the building on neighbouring properties".

The developer is McCarthy & Stone, a company which specialises in designing and managing retirement communities.

A statement on their website reads: "A McCarthy Stone apartment offers more than a stylish home to feel proud of. It gives you access to a vibrant, lively, community of neighbours and friends."

The developer also argues that a move to one of its retirement homes can "relieve pressure on the green belt and contribute to the local economy by potentially increasing retail expenditure in the community".
