Planning committee approves conversion of Cheadle office space to apartments
Plans to convert a Cheadle office building into two blocks comprising 98 apartments have been approved by Stockport Council planning committee.
The committee heard that Lambert House would be converted to residential accommodation, including a mix of one and two bedroom apartments. The development also proposes co-working spaces and a residents' gym, as well as associated bin storage and amenity space.
External alterations would be relatively minor, including window and door changes.
Additionally there would be 109 car parking spaces on the site for residents to use, although some members of the committee raised concerns about the lack of electric vehicle charging points and the potential for congestion on Cuthbert Road.
Members also raised queries over affordable housing, given that none of the 98 apartments would fall under this category.
Cllr Rachel Wise said: "It is incredibly disappointing that out of 98 apartments, where standard good practice would be to include 24 [affordable apartments], they are proposing to include zero.
"It'll be a lovely place to live, and I'm sure they will be wonderful apartments, but I'm very disappointed to see that there isn't an attempt by the developer to do right by the people of Stockport by providing any affordable housing."
Nonetheless, in spite of these concerns, planning application was granted.
