Pensioner pedals 100 miles over the weekend for Stockport Foodbank
A Stockport man has biked 100 miles in two days, in aid of Stockport Foodbank.
Derek Farndell (73) cycled the Cheshire Ring over the weekend, to raise awareness, donations and money for Stockport Foodbank.
Despite battling two hernias, and having a forthcoming operation, Derek pushed his body to the limits pedalling through local canalways.
"I heard so many stories about family's who can't afford to eat, or feed their children due to the cost of living crisis," said Derek.
"I like a challenge, so thought I would do a bike ride to raise money to stock the food banks up.
"To be honest, I have used the food banks.
"In life you have got to give and take a bit, so I decided to do this for Stockport Foodbank."
You can donate to Derek's fundraiser on this link, or by giving cash or tins in person at The Rising Sun pub in Hazel Grove.
Alternatively, Stockport Foodbank has donation and collection points all over the borough.
Stockport venues it is at includes St. Mark's Church in Bredbury, and Hazel Grove Baptist Church.
Nigel Tedford, of Stockport Foodbank said: "We couldn't do without the Derek's of the world."
Anyone referred to Stockport Foodbank can received a three-day package of supplies.
Usage of Stockport Foodbank has skyrocketed since the pandemic, and subsequent cost of living crisis.
