The Chestergate - known by some as 'the best pub on earth' - has installed a new defibrillator in an effort to protect both visitors and the wider community.

"We just wanted to give something back to our community", explains pub manager Steph. With a number of elderly regulars and growing footfall in the area, an easily accessible external defibrillator is all the more important.

Steph adds: "We hope it doesn't get used too soon, but it is there to help somebody."

This £2,000 piece of medical kit was funded by donations from customers, and with the assistance of local businesses that provided prizes for raffles and similar fundraising events.

"We've been overwhelmed by the generosity of our customers and local community", Steph says.

"This has enabled us to raise the money in such a short space of time; the goal was to raise enough money by the end of 2023 with plans to purchase the defibrillator early January next year, but we have smashed that target and managed to get it much earlier!"

The defibrillator was unveiled this afternoon (16 October). Local hero and karaoke queen Molly cut the ribbon - the same Molly of international fame, owing to a video from the Chestergate which recently took the internet by storm. 

Following the said video, people as far as New York and Los Angeles vowed to visit the pub. Well, if they do, they can rely on a defibrillator in the event of an emergency!
