Stockport town centre has seen an influx of 1,000 new employees as a major local business moves offices.

Vitality, a health insurance provider, has relocated from its Wellington Road South premises to Stockport Exchange, the office complex outside Stockport railway station.

This new 45,000 sq ft office at 3 Stockport Exchange has now been officially opened, comprising four floors with different office spaces, a sunken garden canteen and viaduct-inspired booths.

It represents a massive boost to the number of workers in the area, doubling the total number of employees at Stockport Exchange from around 1,000 to over 2,000.

The move also happens to be the largest office transaction in South Manchester since 2019.

It's expected to boost footfall in the surrounding retail, leisure and hospitality businesses and, as Stockport Council says, will add 'further vibrancy' to the area.

Vitality provides health and life insurance for around two million customers across the UK. As well as Stockport, they also have offices in London and Bournemouth.

At Stockport Exchange they'll be joining some other large local businesses including Britain's biggest bus operator Stagecoach, music retailer MusicMagpie, global chemical company BASF, leading property company Indurent, and ONP Solicitors.

Luke McClaran, chief people officer at Vitality, said the move was part of the company's 'long-term' commitment to Stockport and the North West.

"We wanted to invest in a workplace that supports our future growth, helps us attract and retain great talent, and create the best possible environment for our people", he explained.

"The new office reflects our belief that investing in employee wellbeing can support healthier, more engaged and productive workforces.

Stockport Exchange was built by developer Muse, supported by Stockport Council.
