A talented young chef from the Stepping Hill Hospital kitchen has featured on BBC One's Morning Live.
Nineteen-year-old Joe Omolo, an apprentice chef, appeared on the show after he was named NHS Chef of the Year award at NHS England's chef competition.
Joe had only been an apprentice in the NHS kitchen for two weeks before entering the competition.
Speaking to Briony May Williams, Joe said winning the award felt 'unreal'.
Explaining his affinity with cooking, he said: "It comes from my mum. I used to help my mum at catering events - she has a pop-up kitchen."
Joe certainly had a pre-existing knowledge and passion for food, then, but he says he still had to "learn a few other things".
Together with his teammate Nedko Rusev (from Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Trust), he'd prepared a winning menu of saganaki, cauliflower steak with romesco sauce, hake with cauliflower sauce, and fig cake.
Joe and Nedko's partnership represented the first time ever that two NHS trusts have merged to form a team in this competition.
They paired up after both of their original cooking partners had dropped out for personal reasons. Joe had previously been competing with partner Ian Richards from the Stockport NHS catering team, and they had reached the finals stage together.
