The new Tesco Express in Stockport town centre will open on Friday 8 November.

The store is based on Mersey Square, adjacent to the entrance to Merseyway Shopping Centre.

The new store will feature a bakery, plus a selection of groceries, fresh produce, and everyday essentials.

The store also aims to support the local community with initiatives such as 'Tesco Stronger Starts' (which provides financial support for local schools) and the 'Community Food Connection Scheme' (which redistributes surplus food to local charities).

"We are extremely excited to be opening our new store", a Tesco spokesperson said.

"We've got new colleagues joining the team from the local area and through our community programmes we hope to make an impact locally and play a key role in the local community."

Cllr Colin Macalister, Cabinet Member for Economy, Regeneration and Housing at Stockport Council, said: "It's great to welcome back Tesco as the newest addition to Merseyway, joining JD Sports and Poundland as part of the exciting growth here and showing real confidence from nationally renowned retailers.

"This opening highlights our commitment to transforming Merseyway and the wider area—a change that's clear to see in our thriving high street and across the town centre. With the new transport interchange, good quality new homes being built and a thriving business community at Stockport Exchange, Stockport is becoming one of the best places in the country to live a happy and healthy life."

Victoria Nichol, Merseyway Centre Manager, said: "Tesco Express will be a fantastic addition to Merseyway, offering a convenient shopping option for both the local community andvisitors. We had identified that there was a need for a high-quality supermarket retailer in this area of the town centre, so we're thrilled to welcome Tesco and their team to the centre."
