A new Budgens store has opened at 103 Wellington Road South, close to Stockport College.

This will be one of a number of stores in Stockport for the supermarket chain, alongside existing sites in Hazel Grove and Woodford.

As well as the conventional supermarket product selection, the new Budgens store boasts an impressive 'beer cave'.

The new branch will also launch more services in the coming months at the new store. This will include freshly baked food, hot and cold ready meals, Costa coffee, slushes, Tango Ice Blast, and Deliveroo services.

The store opened for business on Friday 28 July - during the first week of business, shoppers can receive a free bottle of water on entry.

Budgens said in a statement: "We are very excited to announce the opening of our Budgens store. We provide our customers with a variety of goods and services [...] We'd love to see you there."

Founded by John Budgen in 1872, Budgens is believed to be one of the oldest supermarket brands in Great Britain. Initially a small, local grocer, the company has since expanded to over 260 stores.

Budgens says of its shops: "Budgens stores are run and owned by people who care about the quality, provenance and value of their food.

"As individual stores serving their own local communities, they are closer to local issues, and therefore able to recognise and cater services to their communities' needs."

Business hours for the new store are as follows:

  • Monday - Saturday: 6am-11pm
  • Sunday: 8am-10pm
