A new Søstrene Grene store opened in Stockport town centre today (Friday 28 November).

The major Scandinavian retailer opened their new store with a lavish ceremony replete with musicians, dancers, and giveaways for visitors.

The shop stocks affordable home decor, craft gifts, art supplies, and much more.

It's based in the former JD Sports unit, which has since relocated to a larger flagship store within the town centre.

"We are delighted to announce the opening of a new store in Merseyway Shopping Centre", a spokesperson for Søstrene Grene said.

"I think this is the biggest turnout we've ever had for all of our openings in the North of England", said Jonathan Cooper, Søstrene Grene's North of England manager.

"We're delighted to introduce the Søstrene Grene experience to Stockport and offer a calming, creative escape for shoppers ahead of the busy Christmas season."

The arrival of Søstrene Grene was confirmed in May this year.

A spokesperson for Merseyway Shopping Centre described it at the time as "a huge win for local shoppers".

Søstrene Grene was founded in Denmark in 1973 by Inger Grene and Knud Cresten Vaupell Olsen - its name translates as 'Green Sisters'.

Now led by Grene's sons, Mikkel and Cresten Grene, the brand continues to grow internationally, while staying true to its family-run roots.

Søstrene Grene Group CEO Mikkel Grene said earlier this year: "This opening will further solidify our presence in Greater Manchester, where we have many loyal customers. The location in Merseyway Shopping Centre is superb and this new store will be the first in the area to showcase our newest shopping concept where we have worked especially on evoking the visitors' senses.

"We want our visitors to feel like entering a Søstrene Grene is like taking a break from an often-hectic everyday life and we cannot wait to spread this feeling amongst shoppers in Stockport."

Victoria Nichol, Merseyway Centre Manager, said: "Søstrene Grene is exactly the kind of brand we're excited to bring to Merseyway - modern, design-led and offering something truly different.

"We're confident their immersive shopping concept and stylish products will be fully embraced by our shoppers and this opening is a real statement to where Stockport is headed and the kind of experiences we want to offer our visitors."
