A new Sainsbury's Local store has opened in High Lane.

The new shop - based at 84 Buxton Road - is open from 11am-7pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.

At 4,682 sq ft, this shop is smaller than a Sainsbury's 'superstore', but nonetheless offers a 'carefully curated range' of items.

As well as fresh bakery items, a Costa machine, groceries, and more, the store also includes a click and collect point so that visitors can pick up items ordered from Argos, Habitat, or Tu.

There are 28 parking spaces on-site, as well as four 'smart charge' hubs that can charge electric vehicles in 30 minutes.

There are 20 staff working at this Sainsbury's Local. A spokesperson for the supermarket chain said the staff will be working closely with organisations such as Neighbourly to help distribute surplus food to those who need it most.

Richard Shaw, the local store manager, said: "It's been fantastic to welcome our first customers to our new, purpose-built store.

"All our colleagues have worked hard to get everything ready for opening and we're delighted with the result.

"We're really looking forward to bringing our passion for high-quality food and excellent customer service to the local community in High Lane."

Patrick Dunne, Sainsbury's director of property, added: "We were excited to celebrate the launch of our new High Lane store and Smart Charge hub this week, which represents a substantial investment in new jobs, infrastructure and services for the local community.

"We hope Sainsbury's customers and EV drivers alike will enjoy the added convenience and choice they provide for years to come."

Plans for the new store were approved in December 2023; the building sits on the site of the former Dog and Partridge pub, which was demolished to make way for the new shop.
