A new recording and rehearsal studio has opened in Bredbury.

Nestled in Welkin Mill is Do It Ourselves (DIO) Studios, and it's now taking bookings for bands and DJs - whether they're looking to practice or to record.

Already it's been playing host to some of the area's best local musicians, and is quickly becoming a hub in Stockport's burgeoning music scene.

The aim is to offer high-end, acoustically-treated facilities, set in a warm and welcoming environment.

There's key code entry for flexibility, but also shared spaces and kitchens to foster a community feel among the musicians - in other words, it's a perfect blend of convenient access and sociability.

Find more information and / or book a slot on the DIO website here.

Available is practice space for bands (including a full drum kit and amps), a DJ booth, and a large recording studio.

And the music gear is top-notch - expect Orange amps, studio-quality drum kits from the likes of Yamaha and Gretsch, and much more.

There's also a lift, making it easy to access for disabled musicians.

Best of all, first time bookers get 33 percent off by using the codes DIONEWBAND or DIONEWDJ at checkout.

Behind the studio is Dan Fern, who's put his heart and soul into making the space as good as it can be.

"It'd be great to start a community here", Dan explains. "It's the kind of place people visit and want to come back to."

Already this seems to be the case, as the space boasts a flawless five-star rating on Google Reviews.

Indeed, as the DIO ethos states: "Whether you need recording or filming, a space to rehearse or help with your live show or productions, Do It Ourselves embraces the spirit of community in our approach to music and audio.

"With decades of experience in the grass roots music industry, we believe we've crafted the best services to help you on your creative journey."

One of the local bands using the space is Maruja, an exciting rock band combining post punk and free jazz.

The studio also recently welcomed Steam Brief; a psychedelic jazz outfit who recorded in DIO's beautiful recording studio.

This particular room fuses Welkin Mill's industrial architecture with all the mod-cons of a top recording space.

As Dan explains, the aim is to recreate some of the atmosphere of KEXP. It can be used to record tracks, or for live performances with video.

And that's without mentioning "The Snug" DJ streaming service which is operated by Charlie Behan, a regular customer at DIO.

The Snug operates out of the studio's DJ booth, which is equipped with all the latest flagship Pioneer equipment.

DJs are able to book onto the snug stream by contacting Charlie through Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/thesnug.mcr/ and streams can be viewed live at the snug on mixcloud and watched later on their youtube channel.

Once again, you can find more information on DIO Studios here.
