The Merseyway Innovation Centre, aiming to provide town centre office space for local businesses, is now open.

Located on the first floor of Merseyway, the Innovation Centre occupies 15,000 sq ft of former retail space and aims to provide 'a new home for small and growing businesses'.

It comes as part of the council's aim to 'regenerate' the town centre, increasing footfall and activity.

Rob Kates, the centre manager, said the aim is to help local businesses 'grow and thrive', to help the high street, and 'get people into the area spending money'.

Mr Kates was optimistic about the centre, arguing: "The retail unit that was here before - it wasn't working."

The centre boasts a cafeteria, a co-working space, and 28 offices. Two customers have already moved in.

Local PR company Unhooked Communications is behind promotion for the new centre. Claire Gamble, managing director at Unhooked, said: "I know first-hand just how valuable shared office environments and coworking spaces can be when you're starting and growing a business.

"With the added benefits of an on-site Innovation Director and a dedicated team who will encourage networking and collaborations, Merseyway Innovation Centre is set to become a very special place for the businesses and individuals who use it."
