SJS Smith Jewellery is the latest addition to Stockport's Underbanks.

The new jewellers opened on Saturday (2 September), and is located in the old 'Stage Door' building.

The ground floor of SJS Smith is a retail shop, selling founder Sam Smith's creations. Underground is a workshop, which will host silversmithing schools for complete beginners; workbenches will also be available to rent for more experienced silversmiths, and there will also be drop-in sessions for jewellers to collaborate, socialise, and use communal tools.

Nub News visited the premises, where Sam was busy fitting out the new shop just prior to opening. The shop is expansive and welcoming, aided by the presence of Bruce - the four-legged 'head of wellbeing' whose job is to support both aspiring and experienced jewellers alike, padding around and offering much welcome company.

The workshop boasts all the charming alcoves and arches of an old building, creating an atmosphere which is sure to be conductive to creativity.

Sam has been a jeweller for around six years, having opted for a career change and a fresh, creative start.

Her first studio in Stockport was founded in 2018, and has already garnered a considerable following among buyers and students alike. The studio relocated in 2021 to a gallery space, hosting beginner and intermediate silversmithing classes.

With this move to the Underbanks, Sam's friendly and accessible courses continue, as does her range of bespoke, handmade jewellery.

The first of Sam's jewellery classes starts on 10 September. You can book a place - and find more dates for classes - HERE

You can also find an online shop and more information on the SJS Smith website HERE.
