A new goth and alternative shop has opened in Stockport town centre.

Named 'The Little Goth Shop', it's based at 8 Mealhouse Brow, the site of what used to be Plant Shop Manchester.

It's home to a wide range of products - decor, clothes, accessories, prints, and much more - and at accessible prices, making it as easy as can be to bring a little piece of gothicism into your life.

The products are produced and curated by a team of 17 makers and traders, many of whom live locally.

Behind the shop is the team and traders from Stockport Alternative Markets - so if you're a fan of those events, visiting this shop is a must.

"It's a bit like Affleck's Palace, but in Stockport", says founder Sarah.

"We've got loads of traders here, some new and some more established.

"We just want to give different traders a chance, nurture them and build a nice community."

And as Sarah adds, the same applies not just to the traders but to visitors; everyone is welcome here, irrespective of how 'gothic' you consider yourself to be.

"We want to celebrate equality and diversity here. Everyone is welcome - 'goth' isn't a restrictive term that pigeon holes you into being one specific thing", Sarah says.

The shop will be in place for over two months. It's closed Monday and Tuesday, with varied opening hours throughout the week. Check the Alternative Markets Instagram and Facebook pages for updates.

"We've only been here since Wednesday (14 May), and we already feel like part of the community", Sarah added.

And there's plenty more to come - as months and years go by, the space will rotate to host different shops and even art exhibitions.

As Ann-Marie Fowler of Underbanks Gallery says: "We want to create a positive experience through art."
