New ‘family hubs’ open in Bramhall, Cheadle and Marple
Three new 'family hubs' opened in Bramhall, Cheadle and Marple earlier this month.
The aim of the hubs is to provide advice and support for parents and their children (aged from pre-birth through to the age of 19, or up to 25 for young people with special needs).
The new sites are based in local libraries; in Bramhall, Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme, Heald Green, High Lane and Marple. Another hub is open in the Cheadle Life Leisure centre.
They will be staffed by professionals who have received relevant training - they will also be a place for other families to meet and share their own advice.
Specifically, the hubs and their staff can offer support with infant feeding, education, language, mental health support, advice on relationships, and more.
The news comes not long after similar hubs opened in the town centre in May this year.
These sites, and others elsewhere in the UK, form part of the UK Government's Family Hubs programme.
The borough's hubs have been brought about by Stockport Council, One Stockport, and Stockport NHS Trust.
Cllr Wendy Meikle, cabinet member for children, families and education, said: “We want to ensure parents, young people and children are supported and know where they can turn for information and help on all aspects of family life.
"There is now a clear and simple way for families with children of all ages to access help and support through our Family Hubs network and One Stockport Local community partners."
