A new community health and eyecare (CHEC) clinic has opened at Stockport Exchange.

CHEC is an ophthalmology service in the UK that supports the NHS by providing high quality, patient-focused eye care, including treatments for conditions such as glaucoma and cataracts. Diagnostic endoscopy services are also available at this new state-of-the-art centre.

It is hoped that the new clinic opening could reduce NHS waiting times and expand patient choice.

The service has clinics across the country, with Stockport as its newest addition.

Cllr Colin MacAlister, cabinet member for economy, regeneration and housing at Stockport Council, said: "I was delighted to officially welcome CHEC to their new home at Stockport Exchange, which continues to be hugely popular with businesses from a wide variety of sectors due to its prime location and high specification design.

"It is pleasing that we are able to diversify our offer and tenant mix into the Health sector with CHEC.

"With work on the Transport Interchange now well underway, as well as improvements to Merseyway and plans for a new Innovation Centre, confidence in the town is high."

Tom Webber, senior development surveyor at Muse, said: "On behalf of Muse, I'd like to welcome CHEC to Stockport Exchange. The new business community we're creating with the council, is all about revitalising the town centre and creating a striking and connected place where people feel proud to come to work, live and spend time in.

Jose Bailey, commercial director at CHEC, said: "CHEC's expansion into Stockport, combined with prestigious clinical excellence recognition this year is a testament to the ongoing work we are doing to support the NHS and patients across the UK."

The wider Stockport Exchange development will deliver up to 375,000 sq ft of office space and 28,000 sq ft of commercial retail and leisure floor space.

The council and Muse are about to embark on design and planning of Phase 5 to feature a further c.65,000sq ft of office, alongside updating the Exchange Masterplan to plan out remaining phases 5-8.

Stockport Exchange forms part of a wider £500m Town Centre West regeneration masterplan, delivered by Stockport mayoral development corporation alongside its public and private partners.
