New banking machines and a banking counter will be introduced to Marple in the coming months.

The new services will be sited in Marple post office, and aim to make banking services faster and more accessible to residents.

The new services will be introduced by Cash Access UK. This non-profit company is funded jointly by nine major high-street banks, and provides in-person cash and banking services across the UK.

The company recently announced plans to open a new banking hub in Bramhall, providing cash and banking services elsewhere in the borough.

In a statement to Nub News, Cash Access UK said: "In conjunction with the Post Office, [we] will soon be introducing faster banking services to the Post Office in Marple.

"This includes new machines to make transactions quicker and a dedicated banking counter.

"This will support individuals and small businesses, offering a more private space to carry out transactions and less queuing time.

"This saves time for customers wanting to carry out banking transactions. It also benefits other Post Office customers as they no longer need to wait behind people making banking deposits."

Cllr Lisa Smart, Lib Dem parliamentary candidate for Hazel Grove, said: "We have long been campaigning for new services in Marple, and recently my colleagues Dan Willis in Bredbury and Woodley, and Frankie Singleton in Hazel Grove, have gone to Link to raise the same issues in their areas.

"We have seen time and again, services get whittled away, until people are left having to travel miles for banking services which are critical for local residents, pensioners, businesses – all the people who make this a community.

"It is vital that this is not just an empty promise, which is why we have been continuing to talk to Link about the deposit service in Marple, and push for a date for when it will be open."

Paul Athans, Conservative parliamentary candidate for Hazel Grove, said: "It's great to see that our commitment to cash and banking services are being delivered here in my home town, Marple.

"In 2023 we set the minimum expectations on banks to protect services for people wanting to withdraw or deposit cash.

"This is a perfect example of private sector investment, supported by this Conservative government, directly benefitting the people of our area.

"This is a Conservative success story and I'm proud to be able to champion it across Hazel Grove constituency."
