Network Rail is hosting a public event where it will go over plans for the Greek Street Roundabout.

The event will take place at the Age UK hub in Edgeley, from 4-7pm on Tuesday 3 December.

Members of Network Rail, the construction contractor, and Stockport Council will be present to outline details and speak with local residents.

The works will begin early next year, with some preparation work required in December. The project will involve demolishing and rebuilding the bridge, which has by now reached 'the end of its life'.

Work is expected to last until Autumn 2025 and serious disruption expected up until then.

The works have been described as 'extremely complex'. For that reason, the Greek Street roundabout will be closed to traffic for around a year, from Spring 2025. And, for a 21-day period in August 2025, there will be no trains running through Stockport.

The event on 3 December will go over these details - it'll be the first in a series of similar drop-in events.

William Brandon, Network Rail project manager said: "We're inviting people to find out more about the essential work to replace the Greek Street bridge, as part of our commitment to keep the Stockport community informed during our project.

"This work is extremely complex. Its construction and its impact on the people of Stockport is being carefully planned.

"We understand the essential work will cause significant disruption to the local area. We don't yet have all of the answers about public transport alternatives during the project, but we want to make sure the community is brought along on the journey from the earliest stage possible. A timeline for when to expect more detailed information about alternative travel will be available at the event."
