Much-loved Offerton pub named finalist at 'pub Oscars'

A popular pub in Offerton is in the running for a big win in what has been described as 'the pub Oscars'.
The Puss in Boots has been named a finalist in the 'best pub for families' category at this year's Great British Pub Awards.
The awards, which run every year, describes itself as 'the ultimate celebration of British pubs'.
For this category, our little corner of Stockport will be facing off against establishments from London, Bristol, Dorset and Cheltenham.
The judges, who have whittled down this shortlist, will choose the pub which 'caters for all ages', and which has "a family friendly food and drink offer and facilities to keep all the family entertained".
The Puss in Boots' nomination comes not long after the building underwent a £400k refurbishment, following an investment from Almond Family Pubs and Robinsons Brewery.
Almond Family Pubs, which manages the pub, said they were 'proud' to be nominated.
"We're absolutely delighted to see the Puss in Boots shortlisted for Best Pub for Families", said James Almond, director at Almond Family Pubs.
"To be recognised on a national stage, and as the only finalist in the category from the North West, is a real credit to Nick and the whole team.
"The Puss is a community pub Offerton can truly be proud of, somewhere families of every age feel welcome. To see that recognised so soon after reopening means a great deal to us."
Nick Bateson, co-general manager alongside newly appointed Naomi Proudfoot, added; "I couldn't be prouder of the team. We've always been a proper family pub, and that's never changed.
"This nomination belongs to our regulars and their families as much as it does to us."
The winners will be announced on 23 September at the Leeds First Direct Arena.
