A motorcyclist has died after being hit by a vehicle following a police pursuit.
Police on patrol spotted a red motorcycle being driven dangerously around 7.30pm on Saturday 17 October, on the M60 clockwise near Stockport Pyramid.
Officers began following the motorbike, seeing that it was "posing a significant risk to members of the public using the motorway".
A pursuit thus began which continued onto the M56.
When police cars caught up with the bike near junction 5 of the M56, officers made 'tactical contact' and brought the vehicle to a stop on the hard shoulder.
It was at this point that the motorcyclist fled their bike, trying to make off along the motorway on foot.
The rider was subsequently involved in a collision with another vehicle which was not involved in the police pursuit.
Ambulance services were rushed to the scene and the rider received emergency medical treatment, but he was pronounced dead.
A man involved in a collision, but who was not involved in the initial pursuit, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by careless driving when under the influence of drink or drugs and causing death by driving uninsured.
Police are now appealing to the public for dashcam footage and any other information which may be useful to help in their investigation into the incident.
The matter has also been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) which has decided an independent investigation is required, to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
Greater Manchester Police said it awaits the conclusion of the IOPC's investigation.
