Marple has ranked in the top 20 places to live in England and Wales, in a recently-published list.
The town placed at number 15 in a ranking produced by Garrington Property Finders, a national estate agent.
Garrington said it chose places which "offer the optimum blend of quality of life and strong value". Locations were judged according to average house price, heritage, natural beauty, wellbeing, and employment / schools.
As well as finishing in the top 20 nationally, Marple also ranked second when it came to best northern towns.
Garrington said: "The town is within easy reach of the big city – it boasts two train stations and is just 10 miles from central Manchester – but offers a gentler pace of life.
"Marple's rural location and famous canalside walks earned it [a high] place in the natural beauty category of our ranking."
And the future looks bright for Marple, with a £20m library and leisure centre in the pipeline, new shop openings, and a busy, characteristic local high street.
Ranking at number one on the list was Twyford in Berkshire. Elsewhere in Greater Manchester, Bowden picked up the number four slot.
