Manchester Road re-opens after historic tank shell discovered at Reddish address

Road closures were in place on Manchester Road and Reuben Street earlier today (Friday 11 April) following the discovery of a Second World War tank shell.
Roads have since re-opened, and the item has been taken away for a controlled detonation.
Paramedics, police and firefighters were called to the scene and nearby properties were evacuated.
Greater Manchester Police issued a statement around 2.50pm today, saying: At around 11.45am this morning (Friday 11 April 2025), we were called to reports of a historic tank shell from World War Two found at an address on Reuben Street in Reddish, Stockport.
"Explosive Ordinance Disposal attended the scene and have taken the device to a nearby park to carry out a controlled explosion.
"As a precaution, a number of properties in the area have been asked to evacuate and there are road closures are in place.
"Thank you for your cooperation."
