Major boost for Stockport County’s stadium expansion plans

It's the major update Stockport County fans have been waiting for.
The club's bid for a stadium expansion has edged closer to becoming reality with a positive response from council officials to the planning application.
A scheme to add an extra 7,400 seats to Edgeley Park will be discussed by councillors at the Central Stockport Area Committee meeting at the town hall on June 19.
Papers published ahead of the meeting show that Stockport council officers are requesting councillors give a recommendation of approval.
The application then goes to the council's planning committee who make the final decision, a meeting which is next scheduled for July 3.
County are currently in League One and reached the play off semi-finals last season.
The club are pushing for a return to Championship-level football, and bosses feel a bigger ground is needed to accommodate demand for tickets and also larger away followings making the trip to SK3.

If approved by councillors, the expansion would nearly double the size of the club's historic ground to a total capacity of more than 18,000.
More than 500 neighbours living around the stadium were consulted over the expansion, and the majority supported the plans.
The council had 191 positive responses with 41 objections from local residents.
The stadium expansion includes proposals for a new car park at the Together Stand (south stand) with 86 bays including six disabled spots.
The club also wants to add 76 parking bays in a proposed Railway End (east stand) car park, including six disabled bays.
However, the Edgeley Wildlife Reserve Group has submitted an objection against part of the plans, focused on the south stand car park proposals.
The group says the parcel of land makes up around 40 per cent of Edgeley's wildlife habitat, claiming it would be 'wrong to turn it into a car park'.
Concerns have also been raised by residents over the parking situation around the stadium, fearing that fans attending matches may park their cars on residential streets.
But ultimately, the decision will come down to the view of the 12 councillors on Stockport's planning committee.
