A massive free-to-attend soapbox derby will be taking place in Stockport next year.

Sunday 9 August 2026 will see the welcome return of Krazy Races to the town centre - the events company which hosts massive free soapbox races across the country.

It'll be the third time that Krazy Races has taken over the town centre, with previous events in 2023 and 2024 attracting thousands of visitors.

The event will see around 20 teams of racers take to their homemade soapboxes and then speed from St Peter's Square to Chestergate.

Points are awarded based on fastest time, best soapbox design, best dressed, and more.

And it'll all be in support of charity; racers will be smashing into haystacks and performing two wheel turns in the name of good local causes. In 2024 the headline charities were The Christie cancer centre and St Ann's Hospice.

Danny Scoffin, Head of Business at Krazy Races, promised that next year's event will be even bigger and better than before.

"We are so excited to be bringing Totally Stockport Krazy Races back in 2026 after a two-year break", he said.

"The last event was incredible, with thousands turning out and nearly £20,000 raised for local charities. Since then, we've toured the country, adding new features to make the experience even better - and we can't wait to bring these to Stockport."

Cllr Micheala Meikle, Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration at Stockport Council, said: "Krazy Races has become one of the stand-out highlights of Stockport's event calendar, and we're delighted to welcome it back in 2026. This is Stockport firing on all cylinders and brings thousands of people into our town, boosts our local economy, gives businesses a lift, and shines a spotlight on everything Stockport has to offer.

"We'd like to thank Totally Stockport BID for funding and supporting this fantastic event, which shows what we can achieve when businesses, partners, and the council work together. Alongside our ambitious regeneration programme — from the new Interchange to Stockroom and Stockport 8 — it shows Stockport is one of the most vibrant and exciting town centres in the UK, while also raising vital funds for good causes."
