Kosovo's ambassador to the UK visited Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery this October to see a new photography exhibition.
His Excellency Ilir Kapiti visited the KFOR and Kosovo +25 exhibition at Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery, which features imagery taken from 2000-2001, in the aftermath of the Kosovo War.
The pictures, taken by photographer Nick Sidle, show communities rebuilding after the 1998-99 conflict, as families rebuilt their homes and children returned to school.
The conflict saw hundreds of thousands of people displaced, and 13,548 killed.
After the war ended, many Kosovan families found refuge in the UK, including Stockport.
As well as documenting the aftermath of the conflict, the exhibition also aims to celebrate the experiences and achievements of families who have built new lives in the UK.
The exhibition has already been shown at the National Library in Pristina, Kosovo's capital, and at the NATO Headquarters in Brussells.
Councillor Dan Oliver, cabinet member for communities, culture and public protection at Stockport Council, said: "We're proud to host this important exhibition in Stockport.
"It tells a powerful story of resilience, community and hope, while highlighting the connections between Kosovo and Greater Manchester that continue today.
"The exhibition also honours the important role of peacekeepers in Kosovo, including people from Stockport who served there.
"It is a fitting opportunity to recognise their service, while reflecting on the experiences of those who have built new lives and made a positive contribution to communities across our borough and beyond."
The exhibition is free to visit, and is open to visitors at Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery until Sunday 13 December 2026.
