Housing support for eligible private renters is set to increase in April of this year, the UK Government has announced.
Local Housing Allowance (LHA) rates are to go up across the country, meaning renters on benefits or Universal Credit can receive more money to go towards paying rent to private landlords.
The UK Government estimates the increase will mean around 1.6 million people are £800 better on average, per year. This includes around 115,000 households in the North West.
The government says the increase aims to "provide welcome relief to thousands of struggling households".
LHA rates, however, depend on the size of your home and where you are in the country.
In Greater Manchester alone, for example, rates are markedly higher in the south than in the north.

Whilst the Conservative government has heralded the increase as 'crucial', others have been more critical.
Tom Darling, Campaign Manager of the Renters' Reform Coalition, told The Independent: "Research by Generation Rent suggests that housing affordability for those on benefits could return to its current unsustainable levels in as little as a year and a half after this increase comes into effect."
He added: "By continuing to freeze the level of LHA support, with no commitment to further increases, this decision – welcome as it is – amounts to a temporary sticking plaster."
Meanwhile, Paul Athans, Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Hazel Grove, welcomed the increase of LHA rates.
"Supporting those who are most in need, is a principle of compassionate conservativism that I am committed to", Mr Athans said.
"This Conservative Government has a strong record in supporting those who need help with the cost of living – especially during the continued fight to keep inflation down and tackle higher energy bills.
"This ensures the most vulnerable families across Hazel Grove Constituency are supported."
