Barely a week after the 45596 Bahamas steamed over Stockport Viaduct, another steam locomotive will pass through the town on Sunday 29 October. 

En-route from Preston to Hindlow, The Buxton Spa Express will pass through Stockport and Hazel Grove, sadly without stopping. 

Nonetheless, the tour represents another fantastic opportunity to experience the splendour of the golden age of steam. 

The journey begins at Preston at 8.45am, calling at Wigan (9.10am), Manchester Victoria (9.50am), Buxton (12.50pm) and Hindlow (1.30pm).

Steam fans in Stockport should therefore prepare to see the train pass over Stockport viaduct and through the borough from around 10am. 

The train will be pulled by a locomotive from Carnforth Steam Pool.

Behind this tour is The Railway Touring Company. Describing what to expect, they said: "This special steam-hauled tour commences at Preston and follows a winding route through the High Peak District of Derbyshire to the Spa Town of Buxton.

"We will cover both routes to and from Buxton and also we will offer the choice to take our train along the rarely visited Hindlow freight line to the quarry in the heart of the Peak District. There will be time in Buxton for you to visit its historic and cultural sights."
