A historic steam train is set to call at Stockport tomorrow (9 March) as part of an idyllic trip to Stratford-upon-Avon.

This Saturday, the Stratford Flyer will leave Manchester, cross the viaduct, before calling at Stockport and Macclesfield on its way to Shakespeare Country.

The train will call at Stockport at 7.44am, arriving at Stratford Upon Avon at 12.17pm.

The train will be pulled by a historic locomotive from Carnforth Steam Pool, and will follow the Trent Valley Line up to Stafford, before joining the Birmingham route via Wolverhampton, squarely through the industrial heartlands of the Midlands.

The trip is sure to be a picturesque romp through countryside and city alike. The Railway Touring Company says that the trip "promises to be an interesting and varied day out to Shakespeare country".

The train will leave Stratford-upon-Avon at 4.18pm, in line to arrive at Stockport at 8.36pm, roughly 12 hours after departure.

Standard class tickets are available for £115 per adult, with Premier and First Class options also available.
