Hazel Grove carnival makes a welcome return for July 2025.

This free community event will take place on 19 July in Torkington Park.

Although there will sadly be no parade this year, there will still be food stalls, trade and community stalls, a funfair, donkey rides and a whole host of other activities.

A description reads: "Although there's no parade this year, there's still our carnival fun day. Your Community event is a celebration for the whole community, with free entry, designed to bring fun and excitement to all attendees.

"Engage in exciting activities, indulge in tasty treats, and enjoy live performances on stage hosted by Strawberry Radio. This event promises a day of fun, happiness, and connection within the community."

Hazel Grove carnival started in the early 1900s. The earliest reference is found in a newspaper article from 1910, which describes a 'fancy dress parade and sports' that took place in Hazel Grove on August Bank Holiday.

The festival grew throughout the 1920-30s, and has run almost every year since, apart from a few exceptions during the Second World War, and in the 1970s and '80s.
