Further arrests for theft amid police crackdown in Stockport town centre
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) Stockport has recently announced seven arrests following 'a series of thefts across Stockport'.
Collectively, the seven adult males have been charged with 51 theft-related offences.
On 19 July, three of the men were arrested. Later, one was charged with nine weeks, another with six, and the other received conditional discharge and was ordered to pay compensation to the victim.
Police arrested a further three men in a 'targeted day of action' on 26 July, with a total of 18 theft offences. On this day, 15 officers patrolled the town centre, jointly patrolling hotspots with security guards from the Merseyway shopping centre and Redrock.

A further man was arrested on 30 July and charged with eight theft offences, and appeared at Stockport Magistrate's Court on Monday 31 July.
Lead investigator PC Leadbetter-Smith of Stockport Town Centre Neighbourhood Team said: "The initial arrests on 19 July led to the remaining suspects fleeing from the Manchester area under the impression that this meant we would stop looking for them. They were wrong.
"As a team, we are committed to getting thieves off the streets and into custody as soon as possible. These males were responsible for several offences that left the victims disressed. Nobody should be made to feel unsafe at their place of work."
