Free summer events for Stockport families

A number of free events are being planned across Stockport this summer which families can take part in.
With schools getting ready to break up for the holidays, there is plenty going on around the borough to keep the kids busy.
This summer, Stockroom in the town centre has a packed programme of events.
It includes children's storytime which takes place every Wednesday morning at 11am in the children's library, and can be joined for free with no need to book.
More events taking place in Stockroom can be found at: https://www.stockrm.org/
From July 25, the town's urban beach returns to Merseyway Shopping Centre, with golden sand, deckchairs and a splash of Hawaiian sunshine. This event is also free to attend.
Until 15 September, the SmileyWorld Art Trail is on. This brings a new art trail to the heart of Stockport which will transform the town into a playful outdoor gallery.
A downloadable map is available at: https://totallystockport.co.uk/smileyworld-art-trail-stockport/
From July 24 to August 30 there are free activities taking place at the Hat Works Museum.
There are creative art activities taking place, including colouring-in placemats and a summer art club in the activity room where all materials are provided. There's also the 'Arc in the Park' activity map for outdoor fun in nearby Viaduct Park – for drawing, photography, or writing inspired by nature.
At Stockport Museum from July 26 to August 31 visitors can check out the Grimwood Museum Adventure. This free event is a museum trail featuring Grimwood characters and challenges. Those who complete the trail will earn a free sticker and enter a prize draw for a signed book bundle and National Art Pass.
Cllr Dan Oliver, the council's cabinet member for culture, said: "We want every child, young person and family in Stockport to have a summer to remember. This year's line-up has something for everyone — and we're proud to offer so many inclusive, accessible and free activities. Whether you're getting messy at a museum, exploring our parks, or trying something new at Stockroom, we hope you'll join in and make the most of what's on offer."
