A Stockport businessman convicted of fraud has been ordered to repay his victims - who were left thousands of pounds out of pocket by his actions.

Steven Wright, from Bramhall, was connected with The Cheshire Window Outlet Ltd, which had not installed windows and doors that customers had paid deposits on.

He appeared at Minshull Street Crown Court on 11 August 2026 following action by Stockport Council's Trading Standards team, where he was ordered to pay £5,703.66 in compensation to a victim, part of a £9,692.33 confiscation order.

Wright was also banned from being a company director for 10 years.

Before starting this window company, Wright had already been banned from director roles following two separate offences in 2014 and 2018. He got around the ban by setting up the Cheshire Window Outlet using his wife, Louise Wright, and later his friend, Mark Tibbot, as directors.

Not long after the council's trading standards team pursued criminal charges against the company in 2022, the Wrights sold their Bramhall home and fled to Florida.

Mr Wright was later arrested in the United States before being returned to the UK.

Cllr Dan Oliver, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture and Public Protection at Stockport Council, said: "This is an excellent result and I am pleased that, following a successful prosecution, the Council's Trading Standards team has been able to pursue a Proceeds of Crime investigation to recover the financial benefit arising from Mr Wright's offending.

"Protecting residents and taking action against those who seek to defraud consumers remains a priority. We will continue to use all appropriate powers available to us to hold offenders to account and help secure justice for victims."

The court also awarded prosecution costs of £7,200, which Wright must repay at a rate of £300 per month.
