Treasured family portraits from Stockport residents will feature in Stockroom - the new town centre library.

The 'Chosen Family Album' project invited members of the public to bring in pictures, or take new ones, to be featured in an artwork which will be displayed in the new library.

The artwork will be unveiled when Stockroom itself opens, in Spring 2025.

Stockroom will include a library, creative spaces, a café bar, and a living room surrounded by a wall of books – the idea is to create somewhere warm and welcoming where people go to meet others or just escape the busy streets.

Residents' pictures were taken on Saturday 23 November at the Merseyway centre. We'll keep you posted if there are any more photo days to come.

Cllr Frankie Singleton, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture and Sport at Stockport Council, said: "Stockport's Chosen Family Album is all about celebrating the incredible people and stories that make Stockport so special.

"This exciting project will help create a special piece of art that will be proudly displayed in Stockroom.

"I can't wait for Stockroom to open next year so residents and visitors can get involved in arts and crafts, enjoy live music and performances, learn a new skill and have access to cutting-edge learning and IT facilities."
