An 'exceptional' Stockport woman has been honoured with a British Citizen Award (BCA).
Kath Stephens was given the BCA Medal of Honour for Services to Community, in recognition of her 'outstanding' support for vulnerable students.
After working as a modern foreign languages teacher, Kath has been spending her retirement volunteering at her local high school five days each week.
She helps vulnerable students - particularly those with SEND - with additional support, such as counselling, to ensure they get the best education.
She's also tireless in securing work experiences and other high-quality experiences for the students, ensuring they get the best possible launching pad into the next stages of their lives.
A BCA spokesperson described Kath as "a champion for students".
"She ensures they have everything they need, from breakfast, a new uniform or stationery items", they said.
And that's not all - Kath also organises charity collections for Hope Central, a local foodbank charity, helping families with food packages, toiletries, and gifts.
Lisa Hannah, chief people and communications officer from sponsors Aldermore Bank presented Kath with the BCA medal of honour and said: "At a stage when many would step back, Kath continues to give her energy, time and care to others.
"This recognition could not be more fitting"
Sometimes known as the 'People's Honours' awards, the BCA aims to celebrate people who have made 'outstanding contributions to society'.
This year's ceremony was held at the Palace of Westminster, and was hosted by TV and Radio presenter Konnie Huq.
