The largest privately-owned family estate in East Cheshire has acquired a popular retail spot in Stockport.

The Tatton Estate, which manages commercial, historic and residential properties, has acquired the retail warehouses on Great Portwood Street, including the Dreams and B&M stores.

A spokesperson said it marked a 'strengthening' of the estate's commercial portfolio, with a 'high-quality' asset to "help secure the future of the Estate and the communities it serves".

The site is over 18,000 sq ft, and home to the two aforementioned national retailers, who will remain in place.

The Tatton Estate as a whole covers around 5,500 acres, and encompasses around 400 diverse commercial and residential properties.

Pete Crowther, CEO of Tatton Estate, said: "Commercial property has always been an important part of the Tatton Estate and acquisitions like Great Portwood Street are part of our long-term investment strategy.

"By continuing to build a strong and resilient portfolio, we're creating the financial strength that enables us to invest across the Estate, supporting our villages, heritage buildings, farming businesses, environmental projects and the communities we serve."

The acquisition was led by Tatton Estate's asset management director, Daniel Bourne, who added: "We're delighted to welcome B&M and Dreams to the Tatton Estate community. We see the businesses within our portfolio as valued customers and we're looking forward to building strong, lasting relationships with both organisations.

"Great Portwood Street is an excellent strategic addition to the portfolio. We'd also like to thank Savills and Mills & Reeve for their professionalism and support throughout the acquisition process."
