Five properties on Wellington Road South have been demolished to make way for new offices in Stockport town centre.

Specifically, the demolition makes room for an enlargement of the Stockport Exchange development, which currently centres around Bask and the railway station.

It is not expected to have any impact on traffic along the A6.

The demolished properties ran from 76-84 Wellington Road South, and had been in a derelict state after years of inoccupation.

The Stockport Exchange development will now be more easily visible from the road. Temporary landscaping will be put up in place of the properties.

The Stockport Exchange development as a whole comprises a series of Grade A office blocks. It has been - and is being - constructed in a series of phases.

The development is currently at phase four, with a high-quality 64,000 sq ft office building currently under construction and due for completion early next year. Plans for phase five are expected to be submitted next year.

This project is delivered by Stockport Council and property developer Muse. It forms part of the Town Centre West masterplan, a £500m regeneration project aimed at delivering thousands of new homes, along with shopping and social space across Edgeley and the town centre.
