Stockport Decathlon is opening a new 15-bay electric vehicle charging hub.

The new chargers are 'ultra-rapid', meaning they can add up to 165 miles of range in a 20-minute stop.

It is the largest ultra-rapid charging hub in Stockport. Its positioning just off the M60 aims to benefit not just Decathlon customers, but also local residents and passing commuters.

After all, the M60 sees an average of more than 87,000 vehicles a day, and the Decathlon site itself receives up to 20,000 visitors per week.

Stockport alone has close to 2,700 registered electric vehicles.

The hub was installed by national charging network Be. EV.

This Sunday (8 September), Be.EV is celebrating the launch of the hub by offering drivers who use their Be.EV app half-price charging* between 12pm and 2pm.

Further still, there will be free Padel taster sessions at the nearby Soul Padel courts.

Drivers will also be able to try out the latest electric bikes courtesy of Decathlon, and will receive a £5 voucher to use in store when they charge their car at the event.

There will also be other electric vehicles on the day: Stockport Porsche is also bringing a Porsche Taycan to the event - with drivers able to experience the vehicle and book test drives - and there will also be Octopus electric vehicles.

Asif Ghafoor, CEO and founder of Be.EV, said: "It's an honour to bring ultra-rapid, ultra-convenient EV charging to Decathlon shoppers, and provide Stockport with a new, reliable way to charge their vehicle.

"Charging hubs like these are required nationwide if the country is to successfully transition to cleaner transport, and Decathlon is leading the way when it comes to EV charging in the EV space.

"Other retailers should take note. As more and more people choose to drive EVs, they'll naturally gravitate to destinations where they can conveniently charge their car whilst shopping."

Liam Fillingham, real estate leader at Decathlon, added: "Decathlon aims to move people through the wonders of sport with a strong focus on sustainability.

"The Stockport site is a great example of this in action. Not only do we have a fantastic store with many eco designed products and services, now we also have our partners Be.EV and Soul Padel.

"So please, join us at the launch day on 8th September to see it for yourself."
