The council will this week consider proposals for an 'update and refresh' of the Stockport Exchange Masterplan, which would involve a new 65,000 sq ft building.

A report from the director of development and regeneration seeks funding from the cabinet in order to secure detailed planning permission for 'Stockport Exchange phase five'. Councillors will consider the report's requests in a meeting on Thursday 15 June.

Such planning permission would incorporate the aforementioned new building, along with outline permission for phases six, seven and eight of Stockport Exchange.

The existing permission, which allows for 375,000 sq ft of offices overall, expired last year.

Space in Stockport Exchange is in high demand, with only 6% still available in the first two buildings.

A third, currently under construction, is already close to securing occupiers.

With no Grade A space due to complete in South Manchester in the next two years, Stockport is well placed to fill any existing demand.

If the report's proposals are approved, Stockport Exchange would be a step closer to expanding and adding to the expansive regeneration of the town centre.
