Cabinet members at Stockport Council will discuss development costs for the new Hazel Grove ambulance station at a cabinet meeting tonight (19 September).

A report to the cabinet proposes that, subject to planning consent being secured, the council pays for the new station.

The report also proposes that the cabinet delegates authority to relevant figures "to do all things necessary or incidental to the implementation of the above resolutions".

North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) currently operates a station from Travis Brow. Given that the council seeks to develop the Travis Brow site as part of the huge Town Centre West development programme, the station must be relocated to a new site.

The new site in question is on Dunkeld Road, Hazel Grove, and will replace a Park and Ride service there.

NWAS confirms that ambulance wait times will not be adversely affected by the move, rather that it will increase efficiency and offer improved facilities for staff.

A planning document for the new ambulance station states: "NWAS will be relocating from their existing premises at Travis Brow in Stockport, where the facilities are dated and inadequate".
