Concerns have emerged over potential delays to the construction of Cheadle Railway Station.

Sharing an update on social media, Cheadle MP Tom Morrison said the delays were due to 'operational challenges' raised by Northern Rail.

However, Mr Morrison said that he has been taking action to make sure the project stays on track.

"While the technical assessments haven't identified any major blockers, there are timetable adjustments on the Mid-Cheshire line that Northern is concerned could impact service reliability for other stations on the line", he said.

"Rest assured, I'm doing everything I can to push this project forward. I've been in regular contact with Stockport Council, Transport for Greater Manchester, and Northern Rail to address these delays. [...]

"I know how important this station is for Cheadle. It will improve local transport links, reduce congestion, and boost our local economy.

"I will not let this project be delayed unnecessarily. That's why I'm continuing to meet with Northern Rail, write to Ministers, and work with local leaders to ensure we get the station open as soon as possible."

The work will mark the beginning of a major infrastructure upgrade in the area, joining Cheadle to the Mid Cheshire Line which connects Chester and Manchester Piccadilly via Stockport.
