The Hesketh Pub in Cheadle Hulme will re-open as part of an investment drive by Heineken.

The beer giant is investing £39m into its Star Pubs & Bars chain, which will pay for refurbishments and upgrades at many of its pubs across the country, including The Hesketh.

Out of Heineken's 2,400 pubs in the UK, 612 are in line for improvement. Of these, 92 will be receiving 'makeovers'.

The money will also cover the re-opening of pubs which have previously been closed - the Hesketh falls into this category.

Plans had originally been submitted to convert the pub into an Italian restaurant. However, with the Hesketh now on Heinken's re-opening list, it seems as though the building is here to stay as a local pub.

The re-openings and refurbishments would aim to "broaden each pub's use and appeal", a Star Pubs spokesperson said.

They added: "Major refurbishments will concentrate on transforming tired pubs in suburban areas into premium locals."

According to a Star Pubs webpage, changes at The Hesketh would include a redecoration, "with lovely low-beamed ceilings and a mixture of traditional and modern furnishings".

The spokesperson also said that the move demonstrates Heineken's "confidence in the resilience of the great British local in the face of global uncertainty".

Lawson Mountstevens, Star Pubs' Managing Director, said that local pubs such as The Hesketh are 'here to stay'.

"People are looking for maximum value from visits to their local", Mr Mountstevens said. "They want great surroundings and food and drink, as well as activities that give them an extra reason to go out, such as sports screenings and entertainment.

"Creating fantastic locals that can accommodate a range of occasions [...] helps pubs fulfil their role as vital third spaces where communities can come together.

"We've spent more than £200m upgrading and maintaining our pubs over the last five years, and we'll continue to invest to keep them open and thriving.

"Time and again we see the value consumers place on having a good local and how important it is to communities."
