A new community cinema club is launching soon in Edgeley, inspired by the former Brinksway Pictorium or 'bug hut'.

Dubbed the Brinksway Cinema Club, the new initiative will show its first screening on Tuesday 18 February from 7-10pm at What If? - a new community hub on Hardman Street.

The first screening in the 2025 film programme will be the comedy hit Bridesmaids (2011), starring Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy in standout comedic roles.

"Whether you've seen it before or are experiencing it for the first time, this screening promises an unforgettable night of fun and entertainment", the organisers said.

Tickets are £3 with all proceeds helping support the future operation of the community cinema. Attendees will enjoy free soft refreshments and snacks, and the event is 'bring your own bottle' for those who wish to enjoy a tipple.

Please note, this event is for over-18s only, although the Brinksway Cinema Club will host plenty of all-ages screenings in the future.

Brinksway Cinema Club takes its name from the former Brinksway Pictorium, the beloved local cinema that was demolished in the 1970s.

Edgeley of course has quite a rich cinematic history, and was also home to smaller venues such as The Alexandra and Edgeley Cinema, both located on nearby Castle Street.

Amanda Johnston, who is supporting the development of Brinksway Cinema Club, said: "Edgeley and Stockport have a strong tradition of social cinema-going, and bringing the community together to celebrate film once again in this new space feels like a wonderful way to revive the spirit of The Brinksway Pictorium.

"We hope to create a fun and welcoming space where people of all ages can enjoy great films and connect with one another."

Future Membership to the Brinksway Cinema Club will be free for residents of the SK3 area. Members will receive discounted cinema tickets, exclusive access to special events and the opportunity to join the steering committee to help shape the club's future direction. All Stockport residents will be welcome to join.

Tickets for the February screening are available now on Eventbrite.

A limited number of tickets will also be available at the door for those unable to purchase online.

Free tickets are also available for those who would like to come but cost is a barrier - contact [email protected] if so.
