An Olympic athlete from Stockport has done the town proud after performing at the Paris Olympics.

Aimee Pratt, 26, took part in the women's 3,000 metre steeplechase on Sunday 4 August.

Aimee finished 11th, with a time of 9:27.26. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to progress to the finals, but Aimee can gladly claim to have bore the torch for our little town on the world stage, in front of millions around the globe.

Uganda's Peruth Chemutai finished first in this event, with a time of 9:10.51 - Peruth is the Ugandan world record holder for this event, and the first ever Ugandan woman to win a gold medal.

Aimee - nicknamed the Reddish Rocket - said she was looking forward to a 'bright future ahead', with her sights set on the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

Speaking to Tom Harle of Sportsbeat, Aimee said: "It was fun [...] I ran very within myself, which in hindsight is easy to say.

"I had done one steeple this year and it was really bad. I'm just massively lacking confidence more than anything."

She added: "At the start of the winter, the aim was to be in that final.

"The road was far from straightforward. I'm proud of myself for getting here under the circumstances. I feel like I've got a bright future ahead."
