Bramhall's Simply Books named North England's independent bookshop of the year

Simply Books in Bramhall has picked up an Independent Bookshop of the Year Award.
This independent bookshop was named best in North England by The Bookseller, a magazine for the publishing industry.
It's one of nine winners across the UK - other regions included Scotland, Wales, Ireland, London, and other parts of England.
In total there were 72 shops shortlisted - the final nine were decided by a panel of judges, with an overall winner to be announced in May.
Simply Books was praised by the judges for its book selection, its cafe and wine bar, and its loyal customer base.

The shop has been serving the Bramhall community and beyond for more than 20 years. It was taken over by mother-and-son team Karen and Ben in 2024 and "has since gone from strength to strength", The Bookseller reports.
"Its customers are as loyal as ever. New owners renovated and modernised in 2024 – with additions including a book club room that hosts a dozen different groups, plus a wine bar and new website – without losing the special spirit of the place.
"Its events programme has also seen "huge growth" and its work in schools has also increased."
It's a big win for Stockport, as our town competes with the likes of London, Scotland and Bristol.
Serenity Booksellers also made the initial shortlist, with its shops in Romiley and Stockport town centre.
